HSD17B13 recombinant proteins and antibodies

Hydroxysteroid 17β-dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13, also known as SCDR9, SDR16C3) belongs to the HSD17B family and is a lipid droplet (LD) enzyme. Currently, 15 members of the HSD17B family have been confirmed, among which the HSD17B11 protein has the highest sequence similarity (85%). Among these members, HSD17B1, HSD17B2, HSD17B3, HSD17B5, and HSD17B6 are related to the activation or inactivation of sex hormones, and HSD17B4, HSD17B7, HSD17B8, HSD17B9, HSD17B10, HSD17B11, HSD17B12, HSD17B14, and HSD17B15 are involved in fatty acid metabolism, cholesterol biosynthesis, and bile acid production.

Studies have shown that human HSD17B13 is a hepatocyte-specific lipid droplet (LD)-associated protein that is most abundantly expressed in the liver and less expressed in the ovaries, bone marrow, kidneys, brain, lungs, skeletal muscle, bladder, and testes. HSD17B13 is mainly located on the envelope of LD in the liver, and its N-terminal sequence 1–28aa is required for its LD localization. Based on human genetic studies and some preclinical research results, HSD17B13 has been used as a potential therapeutic target for NAFLD, and some treatments have been approved for clinical trials. At this stage, the treatment options for this target are mainly concentrated in two aspects, one is RNA interference (RNAi) therapy, and the other is small molecule inhibitors. Currently, no treatment has been approved for marketing.
