TFRC/TfR1/CD71 Proteins, Antibodies and Stable Cell Lines

Transferrin Receptor 1 (TfR1), encoded by TFRC and also known as CD71, is a type II transmembrane receptor that mediates cellular iron uptake. TfR1 binds iron-loaded transferrin and undergoes receptor-mediated endocytosis, releasing iron within endosomes before rapidly recycling back to the cell surface. Because iron is essential for DNA synthesis, mitochondrial metabolism, and proliferation, TfR1 is highly expressed in erythroid progenitors, rapidly proliferating cells, and many tumor cells. TfR1 is also abundant on brain microvascular endothelial cells, where receptor-mediated transcytosis has made it a major target for blood-brain barrier shuttle technologies and CNS biologic delivery.
