| Background | IL12B, also known as IL-12 p40, is a secreted cytokine subunit belonging to the interleukin-12 family. IL12B associates with IL12A, also known as the p35 subunit, to form the heterodimeric cytokine IL-12. It also associates with IL23A, also known as the p19 subunit, to form IL-23. IL-12 promotes natural killer cell and T-cell activation, T helper 1 cell differentiation, and interferon-gamma production, whereas IL-23 contributes to the expansion and maintenance of Th17 cells. IL12B is mainly produced by activated antigen-presenting cells and plays important roles in host defense, inflammation, and autoimmune responses. It is an important target for immunology, inflammatory disease, and therapeutic antibody research. |
