MC4R recombinant proteins and antibodies

Melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) is a member of the melanocortin receptor family, which also includes MC1R, MC2R, MC3R and MC5R. This family is also a subfamily with great therapeutic prospects in the GPCR superfamily, belonging to the rhodopsin-like class A GPCR. MC4R is mainly expressed in the central nervous system. It is a receptor present on neurons in the brain that control food intake and energy balance. It plays a key role in regulating appetite, eating behavior and body weight. Activation of MC4R in the brain usually leads to reduced food intake and increased energy expenditure. Conversely, inhibition of MC4R leads to increased food intake and reduced energy expenditure. The signaling pathways involved in MC4R mainly include the leptin-melanocortin pathway, the G protein signaling pathway, the β-ARRESTIN pathway and the Ca2+ regulation pathway. These signaling pathways are all related to obesity and energy metabolism. This also makes MC4R also known as one of the popular niche weight loss targets. According to incomplete statistics, there are currently 32 drugs targeting MC4R under development worldwide, and the drugs are mainly small molecules.
