| Background | IL12B, also known as IL-12 p40, is a secreted glycoprotein belonging to the type I cytokine receptor family. IL12B associates with IL12A, also known as the p35 subunit, to form the heterodimeric cytokine interleukin-12 (IL-12). It can also associate with IL23A, also known as the p19 subunit, to form interleukin-23 (IL-23). IL-12 is primarily produced by activated antigen-presenting cells and promotes the activation of natural killer cells and T cells, the differentiation of T helper 1 cells, and the production of interferon-gamma. IL-23 plays an important role in the expansion and maintenance of Th17 cells and contributes to inflammatory immune responses. Dysregulation of the IL-12/IL-23 signaling pathway is associated with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, making IL12B an important target for immunology, inflammation, and therapeutic antibody research. |
