CA9/CAIX Domain Proteins, Flow Antibodies and Stable Cell Lines

CA9 encodes Carbonic Anhydrase IX (CAIX), a single-pass transmembrane carbonic anhydrase with a large extracellular catalytic region. CAIX catalyzes the reversible conversion of carbon dioxide and water to bicarbonate and protons and plays a central role in cellular pH regulation. Unlike many carbonic anhydrases, CAIX expression is strongly induced by HIF-1α under hypoxic conditions and is relatively restricted in most normal adult tissues. Tumors commonly develop hypoxic and acidic microenvironments, and elevated CAIX helps maintain intracellular pH while promoting extracellular acidification, supporting tumor-cell survival, invasion, and adaptation to hypoxia. Its high surface expression in renal and other hypoxic solid tumors has made CAIX valuable for antibody, molecular-imaging, radiopharmaceutical, and ADC research.
