CD98/SLC3A2 Research Tools-Antibodies and Proteins
CD98, also known as CD98 heavy chain or SLC3A2, is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein that forms heterodimeric amino acid transporters with several light-chain partners. One of its best-known complexes contains the LAT1 light chain and supports the uptake of large neutral amino acids required for cellular growth and metabolism. CD98 also interacts with integrins and contributes to adhesion, migration, survival and mechanotransduction. Increased CD98 expression is observed in many rapidly proliferating cells and has been associated with tumor growth, metabolic adaptation, invasion and resistance to stress. These properties make CD98 attractive as both a metabolic target and a cell-surface antigen. However, its expression in normal proliferative and immune tissues creates a potential safety challenge, making epitope selection, expression-level analysis and therapeutic-format design particularly important.
CD98-directed therapeutic research includes monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, bispecific or dual-target ADC formats and engineered immune-cell therapies. Most programs remain at the preclinical or translational stage, where studies are evaluating internalization, tumor selectivity, payload delivery and activity across solid and hematological malignancies. Cell-based approaches are also being investigated, although normal-tissue expression and possible on-target toxicity require careful control. Strategies that recognize tumor-enriched epitopes, depend on high antigen density or combine CD98 with a second tumor marker may help improve selectivity. Additional research focuses on disrupting CD98-associated amino acid transport or integrin signaling through small molecules and pathway combinations. Overall, the target has strong biological rationale, but broad expression means that quantitative target profiling and representative assay systems are essential before clinical translation.
DIMA BIOTECH offers a coordinated CD98 product portfolio that includes recombinant human and mouse ECD proteins, monoclonal antibodies and research-grade biosimilar reference antibodies. Available antibody formats include unconjugated, biotinylated and PE-conjugated reagents, with products validated for ELISA and/or flow cytometry. The recombinant proteins can support antigen-based screening, binding analysis, species cross-reactivity assessment and assay calibration. Unconjugated antibodies are suitable for clone comparison and reference benchmarking, while biotinylated formats enable flexible detection or immobilization workflows. PE-conjugated antibodies allow direct analysis of CD98-positive cells by flow cytometry. Together, these tools can support antibody discovery, ADC candidate evaluation, target-expression studies, positive-control establishment and cell-binding assay development.
