GDF15 recombinant proteins and antibodies

Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15), also known as macrophage inhibitory cytokine 1 (MIC-1), placental transforming growth factor-β (PTGF-B), prostate-derived factor (PDF), and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory activating gene-1 (NAG-1), is a multifunctional cytokine that belongs to the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily. It also is a stress-responsive secreted protein whose circulating levels increase in response to tissue injury, inflammation, hypoxia, and metabolic stress. GDF15 is synthesized as a precursor and proteolytically processed into a mature dimeric ligand. Its best-established receptor is GFRAL, which is concentrated in the area postrema and nucleus tractus solitarius of the hindbrain and signals in cooperation with RET. The GDF15-GFRAL pathway regulates appetite, aversive responses, and energy balance and has therefore become an important system in metabolic and body-weight research. Elevated GDF15 is also associated with cancer cachexia, cardiovascular stress, renal disease, and other pathological states, where it can serve as both a biomarker and a functional mediator.
