GPR20 recombinant proteins and antibodies

G-protein coupled receptor 20 (GPR20) is a G protein-coupled receptor that is widely expressed in the nervous, digestive, and endocrine systems. While the precise functions of GPR20 are not fully understood, research suggests it plays important roles in the development and function of the central nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, and certain endocrine glands. GPR20 is believed to be involved in the regulation of neurodevelopment, immune responses, and the pathogenesis of several diseases, particularly in neurodegenerative diseases and gastrointestinal disorders.

In the nervous system, abnormal expression of GPR20 has been linked to several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. GPR20 may regulate the growth and differentiation of neurons and could influence neuroinflammation pathways, making it a potential target for research into neurodegenerative disorders. Additionally, GPR20 is implicated in gut immune responses and the maintenance of intestinal barrier integrity, and its dysfunction may contribute to the development of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).

Currently, drug development targeting GPR20 is in its early stages, but as the understanding of GPR20’s functions advances, it is increasingly being recognized as a potential therapeutic target. Drug development is primarily focused on small molecule inhibitors and antibody therapies. These small molecule inhibitors aim to modulate GPR20 signaling, potentially reducing its role in neurodegenerative diseases or inflammatory bowel conditions. Furthermore, monoclonal antibodies targeting GPR20 are being developed to specifically bind to the receptor and modulate its function in disease processes.
