IL1A/IL-1α Recombinant Proteins and Monoclonal Antibodies

Interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α), encoded by IL1A, is a potent pro-inflammatory member of the IL-1 cytokine family. Unlike many classical secreted cytokines, IL-1α can remain intracellular or membrane associated, and its precursor itself possesses biological activity. Following tissue damage or necrotic cell death, IL-1α can be rapidly released as an alarmin that initiates local inflammatory responses. Binding to IL-1R1 and recruitment of IL-1RAcP activate MyD88-, IRAK-, and TRAF6-dependent pathways, resulting in NF-κB and MAPK activation and induction of inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and adhesion molecules. IL-1α is therefore relevant to tissue injury, chronic inflammation, dermatologic and cardiovascular disease, and tumor-associated inflammatory biology.
