NPY2R recombinant proteins and antibodies

Neuropeptide Y receptor type 2 (NPY2R or Y2R) is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family and part of the broader NPY receptor system. It is highly expressed in the central nervous system, particularly in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus, hippocampus, and brainstem. Upon activation, NPY2R signals through Gi/o proteins to inhibit cAMP formation, thereby regulating appetite, energy balance, anxiety, and reproductive functions. As an appetite-suppressing receptor, NPY2R plays a pivotal role in maintaining energy homeostasis and represents a promising target for obesity therapy.

Pharmacologically, NPY2R agonists are being developed to reduce food intake and enhance satiety, making them attractive candidates for obesity and metabolic disorder treatment. Current research efforts focus on highly selective NPY2R agonists and dual agonists (e.g., GLP-1/NPY2R), aiming for synergistic weight-loss and metabolic benefits. Companies such as Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, and Amgen are actively exploring NPY-related pathways for obesity and type 2 diabetes, while Cerecor and Arena Pharmaceuticals have investigated central appetite-suppressing drugs modulating NPY2R activity.

Beyond metabolism, NPY2R is also implicated in anxiety, depression, and neurodegenerative disorders, with ongoing studies evaluating NPY2R antagonists for psychiatric indications. Overall, NPY2R is emerging as a next-generation target linking metabolic and neuropsychiatric regulation, following the success of MC4R and GLP-1R in therapeutic innovation.
