CD138/SDC1 Recombinant Proteins and Flow/IHC Antibodies

CD138, also known as Syndecan-1 and encoded by SDC1, is a member of the syndecan family of transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycans. Other family members include SDC2, SDC3, and SDC4. Through their heparan sulfate chains, syndecans interact with extracellular-matrix proteins, growth factors, cytokines, and signaling molecules. CD138 is highly expressed on mature plasma cells and is one of the most widely used markers for identifying this lineage. High surface expression is retained in multiple myeloma and other plasma-cell malignancies, while extracellular-domain shedding can generate soluble Syndecan-1. CD138 therefore remains an important target for antibody-based plasma-cell research. Other major plasma-cell-associated targets include BCMA, GPRC5D, SLAMF7/CS1, and FCRL5.
